and the rain making for a wet commute this morning. taking a look at the bay area bridges. there is a lot of water on the roads this morning. good morning... i'm darya folsom. and i'm mark danon. we have complete team coverage of the storm this morning. robin winston is in the traffic center monitoring the impact on your commute. and will tran and yoli aceves are out in the elements. we will check in with them in a moment.... but first we want to check in with james fletcher who is watching the timing of the storm. weather update: we're waking to up widespread rain which will continue to impact the region through this afternoon. expect occasional downpours and locally strong winds. given already saturated soils, flood concerns will increase

this will... now we want to continue our team coverage with kron 4's will tran. he is live in sonoma where they are already experiencing flooding. it is raining in napa. we have breaking news out of the north bay where massive flooding is causing a major mess. this is highway 121 near highway 12 in schelleville where 6 people had to be rescued overnight after the flood waters got too high. firefighters were able to get everyone to safety and no one was hurt. the highway remains closed at this hour. thanks will.

and this was the scene in the north bay last night. there is flooding in some parts this morning. a flash flood watch is in effect in fairfield until late tonight. and the heavy rains could cause even more problems as they continue throughout the morning. and there are already problems on the roads this morning. in napa county right now... the silverado trail between zinfandel lane and pope street is closed due to down trees and power lines. crews are warning drivers to avoid the area. also in napa... dry creek road is closed just north of orchard avenue. crews there are working to clear a downed power line. we will continue to monitor the condition on the roads this morning and bring you updates as they become available. and remember you can

appeals court has a reputation as one of the most liberal in the nation. but experts say no matter what the ruling, the next stop will be the u-s supreme court. kron4 will have a reporter at this afternoon's court hearing. and we will let you know as soon as there is a development with a push alert through the kron 4 mobile app. president trump says he might pull federal money from california. it's a threat as state law makers debate whether to take on the title of "sanctuary state". this morning state attorney general xavier becerra has vowed to fight any move by the trump administration to withhold federal money from the state. president trump criticized california in a fox news interview on sunday. he said the state's consideration of a statewide sanctuary for illegal immigrants is "ridiculous". he then suggested he might pull federal funding. happening right now... senate democrats -- fighting

hard to try and block president trump's nominee for education secretary. this is a live look from the senate floor where democrats have been speaking all night to delay the vote on betsy devos. devos has faced considerable opposition - in part due to her controversial advocacy of charter school programs. so far two republican senators have said they will not vote to confirm devos. that means the democrats need only one more republican vote in order to block the nomination. right now the vote for devos would be split 50-50 and vice president mike pence would cast the tie breaking vote. it would be the first time in history that a vice president has broken a tie for a cabinet appointment confirmation. some democrats say that they may have the additional vote needed to block the confirmation. a story you will only see on kron four... an

iranian student who was stranded after visiting his family.. is now back in the bay area. we first introduced you to payam jafari last week. he is in his last semester at academy of art in san francisco. payam was at home in iran for winter break, when he got word of president donald trump's executive order. he was not allowed to return to the u-s until a federal judge put a temporary halt on the travel ban. yesterday was payam's frist day back... his teachers and fellow students welcomed him with a standing ovation for the first day of his last semester. payam says although he is back in school now... he is still worried for what could happen in the future when he wants to return to iran to visit his family.

police in the east bay are looking for this man who robbed a bank in san ramon and took a bank employee hostage it happened just after noon yesterday at the u-s bank on crow canyon road police say the man walked into the bank with a gun and demanded money from the tellers. when he left he forced an employee to go with him. police say they walked into a residential area before he told the employee to return to the bank. police are hoping that somebody will recognize this man and come forward. the murder trial of antolin garcia-torres continues this morning. he is the man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. in court yesterday, sierra's friends took the stand. defense attorneys painted a picture of sierra... saying she was a teenager who was into parties and drugs. one of her friends said she remembered lamar talking about running away from home, back in the 8th grade. the defense claims lamar was unhappy about the her family moving from fremont to morgan hill.

lamar's body has never been found. the trial resumes this morning at 8:30. this morning police are warning drivers and pedestrians to be extra careful in the rain after a man was hit and killed last night. it happened at around 6:00 last night on el camino real near ralston avenue in belmont. police say the 74-year-old man was wearing dark clothing and crossed a dimly lit section of the road. a man driving a honda-civic says the victim walked out in front of his car and he could not avoid hitting him. the driver cooperated with the investigation. the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. a reminder.. bart has increased it's parking fees at five stations in the east bay. the rise in prices just started yesterday. daily parking fees at the west oakland, coliseum,

the wet weather is causing serious problems for drivers around the bay area. this was the scene yesterday in san bruno... tow truck drivers were out removing cars that drove over pot holes or spun out. in oakland, half a dozen tow trucks had to remove about ten cars involved in a pile up on the 5-80 freeway. c-h-p is warning people to change the way you drive in the rain. hydroplaning" the c-h-p says if you see

any pot holes on the freeway, you can report the location to caltrans. happening now... an armed robber on the loose in san francisco. police say two people were robbed just minutes apart. the first happened near montgomery and gold just after 9:30 saturday night. police say the victim was walking down montgomery when they were pushed into an alley way. the victim was pistol whipped and their wallet was stolen. then minutes later... about a block away a man was robbed a gunpoint. police are now trying to gather surveillance video from nearby businesses to help track down the thieves.

an important recall to tell you about... "evanger's" is recalling some of it's dog food after a drug that is used to euthanize pets was found in it. five dogs got sick and one died from eating the dog food. the food affected is the "hunk of beef au jus". the 12-ounce cans were shipped to 15 states... including california. evanger's dog food is sold all over the bay area. the company says they are paying the vet bills of the dogs who got sick... and they are making a donation to a shelter in honor of the dog who died from the food. a warning for parents this morning... medication for your pets needs to be secured just like pills intended for humans. a new study just published in

the organizers of the post-inauguration day women's march are now planning a "general strike". they are calling on women across all industries to walk out if the workforce for a day. they are also pushing participants to boycott certain businesses. the twitter account for the women's march announced the strike yesterday. the strike is called "a day without a woman". they have yet to announce the date of the strike. one of the biggest makers of smart-t-v's is paying two- point-five million dollars to settle accusations that they

were spying on customers viewing habits. vizio was being investigated by the federal trade commission into the use of data-collecting technology on their smart t- v's. they are accused of then selling that information to marketing companies. legal documents say vizio manufactured smart t-v's that captured second-by-second information about video displayed on the screens. marketing companies would then use that information to measure the effectiveness of as campaigns and viewing habits.

two drifters involved in two murders in marin county and san francisco have pleaded guilty. 19-year old lila alligood and 24-year old morrison lampley now face life in prison. both admitted to killing 23-year -old audrey carey and 67-year-old steven carter back in 2015. carey was visiting san francisco from canada and carter was a marin county yoga teacher. a third person, sean angold, already pleaded guilty to second degree murder and testified against the other two. he is facing 15-years in prison.
